Ruth Crisler came to dog training in 1998 following a career with horses. After over 30 years working professionally with animals, she remains passionate about animal training and behavior. As a Certified Behavior Consultant, Ruth is committed to achieving practical solutions to behavior problems using methods that meet the highest standards (LIMA) of humane and effective training.
Her contributions to the field of training & behavior include extensive volunteer work and participation in a wide range of education and policy projects. She served as Ethics Committee Chair for the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) from 2015 to 2020, was an original IAABC Behavior Consulting Principles & Practice Course Mentor, has written articles for The APDT Chronicle and IACP Safe Hands Journal, and has consulted on a canine genetics project, Darwin’s Dogs, whose research was recently published.
Ruth has contributed to her local community as a Spark mentor to west side middle schoolers, and as a parent representative on Bell Elementary’s Local School Council. In 2019, Ruth was accepted into the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, where she finally learned to read a balance sheet and to take equal pride in being an ethical employer and ethical trainer. In 2020, See Spot Run was awarded a Neighborhood Opportunity Fund grant for the restoration and build out of a former factory building in West Humboldt Park. This new 14,000 sf training facility is scheduled to open in summer of 2022 as part of the City’s commitment to revitalize key south and west side commercial corridors.
Ruth lives with her husband, two children, and two dogs, Feisal and Lodger. She believes that the best tools a trainer can possess are experience and an open mind.
